1. The Organizers

1.1. The organizer of the competition is Future Education DBA Kansas City Chinese School North (KCCSN).

1.2. KCCSN is dedicated to creating an academic, friendly and supportive environment for children and youth in greater Kansas City metro area to learn the Chinese language and culture regardless of races, colors or religions.

2. The Competition

2.1. The Potluck Competition is organized with the intention to promote cultural communication and community interactivity.

2.2. The Potluck Competition is open for all people who are passionate about cooking.

2.3 The Potluck Competition consists of three categories: Appetizer, Main Course, and Dessert. Each contestant may bring only one dish per category.

2.4. Each participant is required to bring the dish(es) cooked by himself/herself, that he/she will allow voters to sample during the competition.

2.5. The contestant agrees to present his/her dish(es) to his/her expositional space assigned by a representative of the Organizer.

2.6. The first ten (10) registrants of the competition pay a $15 entry fee per dish. Later registrants pay $20 entry fee per dish. No refunds or credits seven (7) days prior to the start of the event due to limited event size and availability. The entry fee is transferrable in case the contestant cannot attend the competition.

2.7. The general admission to the competition is $40 per person. Each contestant can bring one companion into the competition site FREE of charge.

2.8. The competition takes place in the Common Room of Platte Woods United Methodist Church, 29th of April 2023, between 4:30 – 8:00 pm.

2.9. The contestants may choose to be present in the competition site during the entire competition duration, on the 29th of April 2023, between 4:30 – 8:00 pm.

3. Awarding mechanism

3.1. The awarding mechanism comprises an expert vote and a popular vote, after tasting the dishes presented by the p contestants. The expert vote is given by three individuals who have expertise in cooking, either a chef, a restaurant owner, or a cuisine connoisseur. The popular vote is given to any community member, including the contestant.  

3.2. Expert voters will be given one VIP voting card when they enter the Common room. Each VIP voting card equals five (15) popular voting cards.

3.3. Popular voters (including the contestants) will be given five voting cards when they enter the Common room.

3.4. The vote consists of placing the voting card on the table corresponding to the name of the contestant.

3.5. At 7:00 pm, a jury consisting of volunteer representatives of the contestants and volunteer representatives of the Organizer will count the voting cards for each contestant.

3.6. Three awards will be given to the winners for each category: one First Prize for the contestant who manages to gather the most votes from experts and the public combined, one Second Prize for the contestant who manages to gather the second most votes from experts and the public combined, and so on.

3.7. The awards consist of various tangible items or gift cards donated by our sponsors.

3.8. The names of the winners will be communicated online on best4future.org and on facebook.com/KCCSN.

4. Final Dispositions

4.1. The rules of the competition are compulsory for all the participants.

4.2. By filling in the application form online, the participants agree to allow the Organizer to use their personal emails for purposes connected to validation of their subscription to the competition, for giving the award and for promotional purposes, related to the competition.
